About Una Zhu
I spent the first decade of my career on commercial sets in Shanghai, shooting campaigns for brands including Apple, Nike and L'Oréal. What I noticed over those years is that the sets I looked forward to were the ones with children on them.
A child who is enjoying themselves cannot fake it, and a child who is bored cannot hide it either. That makes them the hardest people to direct and the most honest to photograph. Most of what I shoot in Vancouver now is children, in English and Mandarin.
